Frank Beiser
A long-time member of Mt. Soledad Men’s Group, Frank was
born in the Midwest but later lived and attended college in Arizona. After graduating, he settled in Bird Rock in
1968, where he and his wife Jane raised their family. After working a few years at one of the Big 6 firms, Frank set
up his own public accounting business in La Jolla and was very successful in
his field over the years. Frank’s sobriety date was Aug. 12, 1982 and he celebrated 38
years of sobriety in 2020 before passing away on Sept. 25, 2020 after a quick
but fierce battle with stomach cancer. Frank
was generally quiet at meetings but always remembered
to get the newcomer’s name and greet him by name the next time he
showed up at
a meeting. He also had a great memory for details that members would
share and
would always follow up a week or so later: asking, for example,
“Hey, how is your dad doing, after that operation?" He was also known
for his having a great
sense of humor, a living example of “Rule 62” by not taking himself too
seriously. Always ready and willing to carry the message, Frank
continued his deep commitment to service outside of A.A. in the community, where
his reputation for dependability brought him into contact with many men he could help,
serving as treasurer and member for 40 years in the La Jolla Kiwanis Club. He
also served as president and board chairman of the San Diego Chapter of the
California Society of Certified Public Accountants. In recent years, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, for the
San Diego International Airport, and for Traveler’s Aid at the San Diego Santa
Fe Depot. Frank really enjoyed engaging with travelers and hearing stories of
their homelands near or far and as many of us know, it was always great to be
greeted by Frank’s smile at the airport after a long journey back to San Diego. Frank’s complete obituary can be viewed here.
